Why vendor agent security attestations belong in your renewal cycle

Model and agent vendors get renewed like any critical SaaS. Before you sign, collect attestations on data flow, subprocessors, injection testing, breach notice, and how they support your DPIA and MSA language.

This week's headlines roundup calls out procurement blocking renewals without vendor agent security attestations. That is the practical end of the MSA and subprocessor work you started earlier in the month: paper your lawyers like, evidence your CISO can audit.

If you already run MCP gateway checks at procurement and injection regression in your own CI, vendor attestations are how you verify the platform under your agents meets the same bar.

What to request before renewal

  • Data flow diagram updated since last year, including training use, retention, and regions.
  • Subprocessor list with notice period for adds and your right to object.
  • Security testing summary: injection, abuse, and pen test cadence (not marketing claims).
  • Incident notification SLA aligned with your customer contracts.
  • Customer content isolation for multi-tenant agent hosting, in writing.

Tie attestations to your DPIA and MSA

Your privacy team's per-workflow DPIA checklist should reference vendor attestations as attachments. Legal's agent liability clauses in the MSA should match what the vendor actually signed. If the vendor will not attest, that gap becomes a risk acceptance memo with a named executive owner.

Score vendors, do not checkbox them

Use a simple matrix: pass, conditional pass, fail. Conditional pass might mean you enable only read-only tools until they ship a fix. Fail means you migrate workflows before renewal date, not after an incident.

Include model provider and agent host

Many stacks have two vendors: the model API and the agent orchestration layer. Both need attestations. Your SKU-level data-flow diagrams should name each party so procurement does not renew one while the other drifts.

Renewal meeting agenda

  1. Review attestation changes since last contract year.
  2. Walk one production workflow through the updated data-flow diagram.
  3. Confirm injection and eval evidence still matches your CI gates.
  4. Document any waivers and who approved them.
  5. File signed attestations where audit and sales can find them.

Board scorecards and customer handoff SLAs from the same roundup only land if the vendors underneath stay provably safe year over year.
