Communities

A local news source for every community in Canada

We are building the same simple idea everywhere: one calm page per place that explains the community, surfaces what is happening nearby, and gives residents a small board to leave a note—kept fresh by agents and grounded by local moderation.

Trail, British Columbia runs on our community-hub pattern: sectioned local reference (about the town, amenities, services, history), a news area with attributed sources, and a short public post box at the top of the page—exactly the “town site + bulletin” shape we replicate for other municipalities.

What each hub is

Every deployment is intentionally plain and readable: navigation to the sections people expect (the community itself, geography and climate, heritage, amenities, services), plus a dedicated news lane and a transparent list of where information came from.

The goal is not another noisy social feed—it is a steady reference locals can trust when they want context about where they live, alongside timely headlines when they matter.

Community board

Visitors can post a short message—think of it as a digital cork board: lost dog, garage sale, reminder about a rink clean-up, a thank-you to volunteers. Fair-use limits (for example one post per person per day) keep noise down while the door stays open.

Posts are community moderated: trusted locals review what appears, escalate problems, and keep the tone appropriate for a public town square—not an anonymous comments section.

Agent-driven, human-steered

Behind the page, monitoring agents watch sources, refresh structured content, and log revisions so the site grows without someone hand-editing HTML every night. People still set policy—what counts as local news, which amenities matter, how strictly the board is moderated—but the mechanical work of keeping sections current shifts to software that runs on the same hosting and backup stack we use for all Swift Media sites.
